Mediators in teaching, challenge and future
Schooling is a process that begins at a very early age and goes from the simplest (kindergarten) to the most complex (higher education) throughout, many times, the entire life of an individual.
The students find themselves with a starting routine : arriving on the first day of class and finding themselves in a classroom with more people like him/her and at the head of that unknown group is the central figure, the Tutor .
As the days go by, bonds of friendship and sympathy emerge that allow us to speak of a “class atmosphere”; This is when teachers are, on many occasions, relegated to a level of reference, teaching and training. The intensity of relationships with the family becomes necessary or not, depending on the efficiency and performance of each student. And, in the case of adults, it is limited to the evaluative fact.
Logically, the different educational stages present a degree of complexity from lowest to highest. In the first instance they are usually more playful and as progress is made, seriousness and motivation for personal, professional and economic achievement become the north of education.
Although this variation exists, there are some factors that remain constant: the students, the teachers and the classroom (closed or open).
But what happens when one of these elements of the educational event fails in its objective? What are the practical alternatives to specific acts of negligence or irresponsibility by one of the parties?
Unfortunately, the answer is astonishingly simple.
When a student commits contempt of any kind, there is no hesitation in putting in place all the existing mechanisms, as appropriate, so that the sanction is quick, effective and forceful. But, this is not what happens when it is the teacher who sins through omission or arrogance. In this case, the multiple steps that parents or students must take are always so exhausting and time-consuming that they give up before starting. In most cases it is decided to move on from the aggressive attitude with an eye toward the end of the school year to change educators .
It is the student who is being trained, who is learning about his abilities and skills , there with his mind open, ready to receive a whole series of precise instructions to, supposedly, develop in various areas of his life and he is also the one who is forced to assume any consequences that may arise from the facts.
That is to say, it is very difficult for the student to prove that he is right if he has to face the offensive attitude of his teacher, who, before reflecting on his behavior, already has a court of colleagues supporting him.
The Minor Protection Law , the Data Protection Law and a few other calls for the occasion do not allow the installation of cameras that film the details of the educational process , the screams, insults and lack of respect to which many groups are subjected. students. However, it is important to note that it is extremely counterproductive to allow a student to be subjected to the emotional ups and downs of a person who should have the professionalism to educate in a respectful environment.
This is where the role of student and teacher mediators becomes a necessity in each educational center since none is exempt from recording details in this regard.
Dialogue and respect are essential so that classroom conflicts can be resolved with true justice , which is why certain situations should not be allowed to become a bastion of power for any of the parties. Mediators would be a great educational tool and would allow the same effectiveness of application of the regulations for both students and teachers.
These mediators should meet a series of requirements that make them worthy of respect and trust. The ability to reconcile and be neutral is the most relevant.
